Lipids (fats) serve the human body as energy stores, as membrane building blocks for cells or as “padding” for various organs. Elevated levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The values are also determined for monitoring during lipid-lowering therapies or in cases of suspected hypercholesterolemia.
Blood draw
Please arrive for your blood draw on an empty stomach; that is, do not eat or drink anything—solid or liquid—for 10–12 hours before the blood draw. You may drink water, but no sugary drinks.
