Lipids i. e. fats serve the human body as energy stores, as membrane components of the cells or for “padding” various organs. Elevated levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The values are also determined for monitoring during lipid-lowering therapies or if hypercholesterolemia is suspected.

Sober for blood collection
The blood sample must be taken on an empty stomach. No intake of solid or liquid food for 10–12 hours before blood collection. Water is allowed, but no sweet drinks.
